The James Wood Colonels dominated the Northwestern District rushing game in 2009, but after losing Brock Lockhart, Trae Tinsman, head coach Mike Bolin is looking for other players to step up.
James Wood captured their first playoff win since 1970 last season before falling to Sherando in a soggy Region II Semi-final clash.
Looking ahead to 2010 Brock Lockhart the schools record holder for rushing yards and td's is gone and quarterback Trae Tinsman is playing at Shepherd University. But the coaching staff expects senior Matt Copley to take his place.
"We just need someone who will step in there and lead. So far this summer he has done that and thats what we expect out of any of our quarterbacks."
While there is obviously some rebuilding to do He has plenty of competition to fill up his defense and the backfield. He's has 21 seniors on this year's squad.
"Brock was a very big part of our team, anybody could see that. We have some guys who are stepping up that are really working their butts off and we should fill that spot very well."
"They know what we expect. We expect them to work hard and do what they are asked to do and be accountable and be responsible and if they do that football things will take care of themselves."
James Wood football faithful hope that this year's playoff winning streak isn't snapped after one game.
"You got over a thousand people up on our sides looking for Brock Lockhart or whoever's carrying the ball to run down the field and make it big. It all starts with us, so we gotta go out there and show them what we got."
